SUMMER 2026 UPDATE

The Arlington Heights Road reconstruction project is nearing completion. Crews are currently preparing for final asphalt surfacing. After paving, a pavement rejuvenator will be applied to protect the new asphalt surface. This material requires a 10-14 day curing period  before final pavement markings can be installed. All lanes are expected to reopen in both directions in July. Also, the new traffic signals are planned to be activated in July.

Visit the Construction Updates Page for more information about construction and the project timeline.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is reconstructing Arlington Heights Road, from IL 83 to Lake Cook Road for 1.5 miles in the villages of Buffalo Grove and Long Grove, as well as unincorporated Lake County.

The project will replace pavement that was originally built in 1980 and has now reached the end of its useful life. The reconstruction will consist of removing the existing concrete, installing a new aggregate base and replacing the roadway pavement with brand new asphalt. The purpose of the project is to not only address the roadway condition but to also improve safety and provide a more accessible roadway for pedestrians, motorists and all other users in the community.
