With roughly 26,000 vehicles a day traveling throughout the corridor, Arlington Heights Road is one of the busiest local roadways for motorists. As a five-lane roadway with two lanes in each direction and a landscaped median that experiences heavy use, it is time for the aging roadway pavement to be updated. This project will improve the corridor with new asphalt pavement which will provide a quieter riding surface and more cost-efficient roadway.
To provide safe and efficient access to all types of travelers in the area, the project will create a three-foot shoulder within curbed sections of the roadway adjacent to the travel lanes to provide bicycle friendly shoulders, enhance the roadway drainage system and increase available room for workers and vehicles during maintenance activity.
Ultimately, this project will enhance the safety, mobility and accessibility of the project area.

PROJECT PHASES
Phase 1:This phase encompasses the engineering and environmental studies for the proposed improvement. During Phase I, the study team analyzed existing and future conditions, developed and evaluated improvement alternatives and concluded with the selection of a preferred alternative.
|
Phase 2:Phase 2: This is the design and land acquisition stage. Construction plans for the preferred alternative were developed, and necessary right of way was acquired.
|
Phase 3:The project is currently in Phase 3. Construction is set to begin in Summer 2024 and end at the end of 2025. You may have seen crews in the project area over the winter conducting necessary work such as utility relocation and tree clearing in preparation for the construction season.
